Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan had been sitting on my Audible TBR/TBL shelf for all of 2023.

I honestly couldn't tell you why because from the moment I read the blurb I was itching to read it. I had this feeling it be one of my favorite reads/listens. And I wasn't wrong.

As a SA and DV survivor myself, this touched extraordinarily close to home. So maybe that's why I put it off for so long? Who knows. What I do know is through Iris, I healed parts of me that I didn't even know needed healing and that's after 6 years of intense therapy.

This book. Well it is the raw soul etching read I'm searching for this year. The one that really gets you. There were times I didn't realize I was holding my breath or had tears streaming down my face, until I let out the breath or touched my face.

Kennedy Ryan handled these very real topics with so much tender love and care. And August?! Well holy he was everything I needed while reading. He is that person I too have been searching to find in my time of healing my own hurts and traumas.

Long Shot may have brought me back to recesses of my mind and memories I try to forget but it hugged me and healed me while doing so.

Long Shot has no scale because there is nothing I can compare it to beyond my own experiences. It goes beyond any scale a reader may use.

Thank you Kennedy Ryan for the hug I didn't know I needed. Thank you for letting me live my truths through Iris and heal along side her. Thank you for bringing light to something that does feel shameful and so many other emotions.

S/N: After listening to this book on Audible, which I highly recommend both Sean and Jo did phenomenal narration!, I immediately rushed to the store to purchase a copy and started reading once more. I couldn't help myself and ended up noticing things I missed the first time.
