A success for me but just barely. I was captured by the title and premise when perusing a bookstore but the actual read felt a bit overworked. In the end I get what the author was trying to do but it felt like a lot of the same on the way to getting there. I know that many of the topics she was tackling (drug abuse/recovery, primarily) are like that - one step forward two steps back - and when you have two (occasionally three) characters moving towards growth that can happen a lot. As a sympathetic reader, I was easily swayed by the “arguments” (writings) of each person, so that was exhausting as well. Overall, I appreciate what the author was taking on but it wasn’t an enjoyable read for me (not to mention, I was ready to move on from shielding the title in front of my children and general audiences 🤣).
Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism, Drug abuse, and Sexual harassment
Moderate: Body shaming, Sexual assault, and Pandemic/Epidemic
Minor: Rape and Suicidal thoughts
