As an Irish person, I’m always nervous to read about Ireland from an American POV but honestly, this had so much promise. Clearly a well-researched story about a meet cute between an American girl and an Irish boy; insert lots of drama and tension involving gangs, bombs, the IRA and just general criminal activity (all incredibly detailed and thankfully accurate). This author even went so for as to figure out the actual distances it would take to travel to places around Ireland, yes the bar is that low.
The letdown however lies solely with our FMC, Amber who was so incredibly boring and righteous and “morale”, it drove me up the walls. Admittedly, we do get our redemption arc but the whole worshipping-her
-father-situation meant I didn’t really see the conflict as resolved. I truly couldn’t find anything interesting about her and even now, finished, I couldn’t tell you much about her as a character.
An overall predictable conclusion to a somewhat exciting story.
