The Man from St. Petersburg by Ken Follett
3.0
Set against the political backdrop of a looming WWI, this is a great mix of historical fiction, thriller and romance. Aristocratic Lord Walden is hosting nephew, Russian Prince Orlov in London where he has been tasked with negotiating an alliance with the Russians so that both countries can take on Germany’s military might. But others have a revolutionary interest in preventing such an alliance so Orlov’s life is in danger. Throw into the mix Walden’s Russian wife, Lydia who holds dangerous past secrets and their daughter Charlotte whose hitherto repressed rebellious character threatens them all and it all leads to a suspense-filled climax where lives and the outcome of war are at stake.
