Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

5.0

I didn’t know I needed that book but it turns out it’s exactly that and even more.
Let me start by saying that I know many people criticize this because it reads like a fan fiction and honestly - they are not wrong. However I don’t think that’s something negative at all. There are some high quality fan fictions out there which are way better than some of the books I’ve read. I understand that when you’re not into this kind of writing style or vibe (literally don’t know how to describe it) then you probably won’t enjoy Carry On?
I’ve read a shit ton of Drarry (Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy) fan fiction in my life as 1. I love the Harry Potter world more than I love myself, 2. I couldn’t just stop after what J.K. Rowling wrote. I needed more. But that’s beside the point. The point is: Carry On is definitely based on the idea of Drarry (you just can’t deny it) and just the overall world of Harry Potter so naturally I had to pick it up.
I never read any books that are based on HP because let’s face it: nothing could ever compare (at least in my humble opinion) so of course I was hella skeptical when I started reading Simon and Baz‘s adventure together. And I immediately fell in love.
This story is weird, cute, sad, funny and also nothing like HP? It got that special vibe to it but it really doesn’t try to be some HP knock off.
The characters are so so so lovely and their dialogues are to die for! I love when a dialogue is funny and weird in an authentic kinda way and Rainbow Rowell really nailed that part for me.
I felt all kinds of emotions while reading or more like inhaling this book and it ruined me for some weeks. I could not read anything else seriously because I couldn’t stop dreaming about this one. I’m pretty sure I’m still not over it.
Needless to say: I absolutely loved it. It’s pure happiness. And while it’s in no means perfect, it had that special something for me which made it one of the best reads of 2018!

This is going to be a mess. I’m a mess.

I am absolutely incapable to rate this book out of a somewhat objective point of view. I’m completely in love and you know what they say - people in love look through rose-tinted glasses.
I absolutely loved it. I loved it so much. It was so entertaining, weird (those spells were the best. I mean, one was Have a break, have a kit-kat.), so lovely (Penelope, Simon and Baz, they have my heart), so funny and authentic (not like dragons and vampires are realistic but the dialogues were just so GOOD). I honestly can’t remember the last time I was this happy and sad at the same time. I was rolling around like a complete idiot. I got a total of 2hrs of sleep because it’s so addictive! I couldn’t put it away!
I don’t know what to say, I think I have to reorganize my feelings and hug this book for awhile.
