His Name is George Floyd is an expansive telling of George Floyd's life from his familial history in Reconstruction-era North Carolina, his family's move to Houston's Third Ward, and his journey to Minneapolis for a fresh start. The authors, Washington Post journalists write a detailed history of Floyd's relationship with family and friends, his challenges and his successes. Much of the book is focused on his life prior to his death. I learned so much and it is such an illustrative example of the systemic racism Floyd encountered. His challenges were not all that different from many other people. The book flows logically from his background up to the day of his murder through the trial and verdict. The last section focused on the continued work his family is doing with the money awarded to them and the challenges of getting any sort of police reform passed into law.
