Strangers in Paradise, The Collected volume 1 by Terry Moore
4.0
You know it's funny. I avoided this comic in the late 90s and early 2000s because there was already such a huge number of books in the run (I think I even said that to someone who turned out to be Terry Moore back in 2004 or so - oops!). But I really should have looked past that and picked up the books.
I see shades of comics that both came before and after in these pages. Even though this is realistic fiction, I see shades of Sandman. And the webcomic Girls With Slingshots definitely must have been influenced by this comic.
I have no idea where this is going yet, but an intriguing beginning and I want to see more of Francine, Katchoo and David. (Especially David who has been so steamrolled so far by Katchoo. At some point I'm sure he'll get fleshed out, and I want to know why he's there!)
I am reading this as part of an online course on gender in comics, so I am very much looking forward to (what I hope will be) intelligent discussions on the book.
