Misery by Stephen King
Did not finish book. Stopped at 10%.
I simply wasn't enjoying this. I tried to give it a good attempt, but I found myself avoiding reading completely because I didn't want to read it. Within the first couple of chapters, King feels the need to state that none of Annie's orifices are sexually appealing and that she's curvy but only in the bust. It was a truly disgusting paragraph to read and fully fit the stereotype of "men writing women," and I found it so unnecessary to both the story and her character. From the description, I thought this would be much more of a psychological thriller, which I was really excited about, but it is very much focused on body horrors and physical abuses instead. From the reviews I've read, there may be more psychological aspects later, but I don't care to get there.
Graphic: Body horror, Confinement, Domestic abuse, Drug abuse, Drug use, Emotional abuse, Gore, Physical abuse, Torture, Violence, Excrement, Medical content, Kidnapping, Car accident, and Injury/Injury detail
