I don’t know if it was my mind set or the authors writing but for the life of me I could not differentiate between the two female main characters if this book until like half way through. Which made for an annoying and confusing read. After I got that sorted it was a fine book. I felt like because this book was so small things like the death of a character or their time in the ghetto and other camp were often either not explained or brushed past rather quickly. There were also so many time skips that could have been used more effectively. I didn’t connect with Eva or Sophie as much as I was hoping to, all of their interactions and emotions felt very surface level and I felt like this story could have been so much better if the author just added 50 more pages of backstory between the two women. Over all it ended well and I just felt fine about it.
