I did not expect to like this book as much as I did…I got it for free from Amazon’s “stuff your Kindle (or iBooks) day” so I assumed that being free, the writing quality would reflect the price. Surprisingly, the magic and history of the first book of this trilogy is well-thought-out and unique while still being easy to grasp.
Although there were some pacing issues (the first 3/4 of the book were very drawn out and the rising action and ending felt rather rushed in comparison), most of the characters and plot points were believable and the romance was decent!
Even managed to surprise me with the second twist right at the end!
Rounding up because I can appreciate that a lot of effort must have gone into this series’ creation and writing, though probably not quite enough to convince me I HAVE to buy the second and third
