Blue Exorcist, Vol. 12 by Kazue Kato

5.0

The series seems to be entering its second longer arc and it looks properly exciting, with quite a few exciting twists already in Volume 12. I like that overall the series gives a proper chance to less explored characters like Izumo to shine while also managing to successfully weave everyone into the main story.

"Ao no Exorcist" seems to have its best footing in arcs like these - where it actively moves the plot and the main mystery. While I enjoy the character building moments, this is truly its strongest suit. And there is nothing bad about doing both at the same time.

(I also appreciate the narrative giving the group a roadtrip-ish moment.)
