There's a lot of nostalgia in this star rating, but the first time I read this I loved the way the story played out. The heist feel, the magic, and the characters really worked for me. Rereading more than a decade later, I still love the characters and so much of the world building, but I've also noticed way more the copaganda that pops up and some of the less enjoyable, occasionally abelist or fatphobic villain tropes in the series. That said, I still really enjoy reading these, and the found family elements are so great. I love the way the relationships evolve then regress then change then evolve again. I may not recommend them to new readers much, but I will probably always enjoy an occasional reread of the series.
Graphic: Kidnapping
Moderate: Confinement and Mental illness
