Family Meal by Bryan Washington is an important read. I listened to the audiobook, and at times felt challenged with following along through the various chapters. This book is written by a black author and focuses on the themes of queer identity, gay men, HIV/AIDS, loss of a parent & significant others, trauma, cultural identity, and police brutality. Family Meal is an important read that follows the story of two former best friends, Cam and Kai as they rediscover their friendship and navigate the traumas and triumphs of life. Family Meal is a touching and poignant story on the ever-changing nature of life and self-discovery.
