Teka Teki Rumah Aneh by Uketsu has a unique premise. The story begins with a house that has a strange and confusing layout, which ultimately leads to a murder case. This unusual setting immediately grabbed my attention. After checking on Storygraph, I discovered that this book also has a manga version, which made me even more curious about how the visual adaptation would compare to the novel. The book is a real page-turner—I finished all 200 pages in just two days. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The pacing is also quite fast because the story is written in dialogue, almost like a script. However, it’s done so well that I didn’t mind the format at all. It actually made the reading experience more dynamic and helped keep the pace engaging.
Since the story revolves around a strange house, the book is very detailed about the layout. I really appreciated that every time the layout was mentioned, the book provided a reference so I didn’t have to flip back to the first page to check it. This made following the plot much easier and kept the tension high without interruption, which is something I always appreciate in a mystery. The intricacies of the house’s design play a key role in the plot. While reading, I felt quite nervous and scared—the murder case is truly disturbing. The book captures the eerie feeling of being in a place that doesn’t make sense and pairs it with a chilling mystery that kept me on edge.
Although there aren’t many plot twists, the ones that do appear are well-executed and enhance the story. The author did a great job of balancing suspense with just enough unpredictability to keep the reader hooked. The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, but I didn’t mind. The open ending was executed so well that it left me satisfied. It felt like the story wasn’t quite over, but that added to the eerie atmosphere. If you enjoy unique mystery thrillers, I’d highly recommend it.
