i’m not one for war books BECAUSE they are depressing and horrific, but this one... well it did not scrimp on the horrors, but it’s almost… perverse in how it indulges in them? i do think i should read things that disturb me every now and then, but somehow the erotic nastiness of the book helped soften it too, though not as much as the children of the king did, so i came away from it feeling properly disturbed. in this way, i enjoyed the story both as someone trying to break out of her comfort zone and also as a pervert

i quite liked the first person plural narrative and the short, “objective” sentences. i really did like the twins. they were fun protagonists, even when in some sections they were not so lovable. the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger but i learned that it was a trilogy b4 i finished so i didn’t mind. i’m not too keen on reading the next two tho. i kind of like the level of Fucked Up in this first book and the next two sort of unravel it in a meta way i hear
