Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter

5.0

This book is a damn thrill. The way Hunter paces both plot and character revelations is downright brilliant here -- she follows a spiral, slow at first and increasingly dizzying-fast. You don't know anything about a character and then all of a sudden you know everything and, God, are those things terrible enough to make you sick. Her sensory descriptions, particularly those of smell, pull you right in to revolt you. The ending is fireworks: flash-bang quick and explosive; when you close the cover, the dust hasn't even begun to settle.
