Phantom Tales of the Night, Vol. 1 by Matsuri

4.0

Oh, heck yeah! Give me a savage little book of frightening fairy tales any day and I’m down!

This story is told through four vignettes, each featuring one of the main characters who reside in the mysterious Murakumo Inn. The Inn and its proprietor only appear when something bizarre happens. Guests who find themselves at the Inn do not pay with money but with secrets. Why? Because what represents a whole of a person more than the secrets they hold near, than the secrets they are willing to die to keep?

In addition to being a delightful collection of morbid tales, the art in this is truly beautiful! The illustrations are unsettling yet so elegant it’s almost impossible not to trace every line with your eyes. I just can’t get over the gruesome and mesmerizing style of this manga.

Definitely will be reading more!
