The Totally Secret Secret by Bob Shea

3.0

This was a decent easy reader, 56 pages with a cadence that mimics a true conversation. The text is repetitive but expansive. "I know! We can play checkers." "Yes! Checkers!"
The plot is that Sparkles Pony wants to play anything but ballet, but Ballet Cat can't see that.
The plot matches the illustration using simple drawings that seem fluid and indicative of movement. This is a bit harder than other easy readers, needing some words to be sounded out like "magician", "lemonade" and "kicking, spinning, leaping". The text is large and easily read.
The book challenges the notion that friends have to always agree and shows that disagreement, compromise and discussing how you feel are valid feelings in friendships.

This is a fun, quick read. It would be a good addition to a story time that is focusing on disagreements and problem resolution.
