In the Country of Others by Leïla Slimani

I DNF’d this before because of mood/expectations issues. When I saw the premise of the second in the trilogy (Watch Us Dance), I was inspired to pick this one back up. It worked much better this time with a little tweak in my expectations. This is a complex portrait of a biracial family set in post-war Morocco. It’s more vibes than plot, but there are certainly some explosive moments. I’m told that you don’t have to read this one before reading book 2, but I think I’ll appreciate having this back story.
