I have some warm feelings towards PaP, since it was my second ever romance book as a child; and I liked it much better than I did Twilight. It's interesting to read and compare to romance novels of today. The similarities are surprising and obvious. I guess PaP is an actuallly good predecessor of all shitty paperback romance books, but they're still recognizably in the same category.
I liked Elizabeth and her character development, but I feel like the story would be much more interesting if it was focused on Mr Darcy. Sadly, he's here mainly to be a vessel for readers' wish-fullfillment.
I liked the prose and flow of PaP, and I liked the voice of the narrator. It's a very entertaining and funny read. But the more pages you turn, the more you realise that all these people and places and names don't actually matter and they won't have any kind of development. All these Marys and Dannys are there to take up space and confuse the hell out of reader.
The good impression of the novel was ruined by the ending, though. Hence my low rating. It felt rushed. I was not convinced that Elizabeth and Mr Darcy are the couple that has the strongest connection ever and that will withstand the test of time. I was confused by the overly happy tone of the last chapter, I remember finding it weird even as a child.
It's entirely possible that I'm not educated in classic english literature enough to appreciate this novel, though.
