I was absolutely not expecting what this book gave to me.

I went in mostly blind, only having glanced at the ratings. Iso what I thought would be a quick and quarky rom-com, this gem read so much more like a literary love story.

I did not want to put this book down and fell asleep reading last night, I was all in from page 1.

We follow several characters living in a small town known as Peasebrook as they each navigate life and what that means through grieving their beloved Julius, a bookshop owner.

Each chapter gives us a glimpse of the characters lives and how they’re so much more than surface level. We see love, pain, grief, and second chances. We see as the community rallies around Amelia, who is Julius’ daughter, returned home to take on Nightingale Books.

I am very shocked that I do not hear more about this book. I am a sucker for anything surround a bookshop, especially small town England.

It is a book I will be buying and annotating as I read it again and again.
