The New Kid at School by Kate McMullan

I was quite excited for this series, when I saw how many of them are available (20 in all). I figured my six year old would be very interested in a book that's sort of a cross between the [b:How to Train Your Dragon|352262|How to Train Your Dragon (How to Train Your Dragon, #1)|Cressida Cowell|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1431930187s/352262.jpg|1484561] books and [b:Harry Potter|3|Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)|J.K. The language is somewhat similar to [b:How to Train Your Dragon|352262|How to Train Your Dragon (How to Train Your Dragon, #1)|Cressida Cowell|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1431930187s/352262.jpg|1484561], if slightly less jovial, and the book is generously illustrated in black and white. But, it didn't click with my son at all, unfortunately. He put it down after three chapters, saying he didn't like it. Not quite sure why, but we might try again next year. To be honest, I didn't find it terribly funny myself, although there is some word play with names and stuff and decent attempts at puns. There is additional material at the end too, maps and character trivia, which might have delighted my son had he made it all the way.
