While this is billed as a horror, I think it ends up as more of a dark fantasy, but perhaps it read that way to me because I was listening to the audiobook, and the narrator had a very upbeat voice the entire time.

I find Kingfisher's writing style to be tight and fast-paced, not leaving much room for distraction, but this one was a little slower and more melodic, although it was still fast-paced at times.  The mystery eventually solved at the end of this book isn't shocking, but it is also a situation our characters will be dealing with for the rest of their lives.

While not marketed this way, this book absolutely has disability representation with our MC's knee injury, and it's a specific kind of disability that comes with the United States Healthcare system; if she was able to have surgery, it might not have been longlasting, but the end of the book makes it seem as she is going to be dealing with this for a long time.

While not my favorite Kingfisher, still very interesting!
