At first, I found the world building really cool, but the farther the story went, the more the mystery just fucking confused the hell out of me. And it was so annoying every time Io thought she had uncovered the real culprit only to find out she was wrong. I ended up not caring about basically any of the characters besides Nico, Chimdi, and Edei. The concept of other born with various powers related to gods was a fine concept, but again, they just became so fucking confusing because they were so many types of other borns mentioned. I lost track of what their powers were, what gods they were connected to, etc.
