*** Part of my journey to re-read all Discworld novels in order ***
Rounded up from 3.5 stars.

Pyramids is one of the few standalone Discworld novels, and delivers a pretty standard fantasy story set in the Discworld version of Ancient Egypt.

While Pratchett's signature wit and imagination is definitely present, I missed the satire and social commentary from other Discworld books. The plot felt flat and meandering at times, and while Teppic was interesting as a main character, he suffered from the "Mary Sue" trope of being good at everything. I also could have done with less descriptions of the luscious curves of the one female character Ptraci - unfortunately, the prevailing sexism in fantasy at the time is present in the Discworld novels as well.

Nonetheless, there were a lot of fun moments that made me laugh out loud in the car and on the train, probably much to the amusement of the people around me. The narration in the audiobook was once again excellent and a joy to listen to.

Even though not one of the best Discworld novels, I would recommend the audiobook version to fans of old-fashioned fantasy and the Assassin's Creed series.
