The Lost Man by Jane Harper

4.0

This was a powerful story, and as is mostly the case with such books, it was deeply evocative and multi-layered. [a:Jane Harper|556546|Jane Harper|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1550638161p2/556546.jpg] has explored so many themes - loneliness, second chances, hope and family, that after a certain point, the book transmutes from a murder mystery to something much much more. Three books in, she has yet to fail as an author who delivers exemplary works.
A mystery plot with no detective at its centre, it's protagonist Nathan Bright, carried the burden of the lead well. I loved how the characters were sketched out, each of them with such thought and detail, that they seemed like real people we might come across in our lives. The theme of family - its complications, the good, ugly and bad parts of it, mistakes of our past, the skeletons in our closet, our denials, our breaking points, forgiveness, our giving up and our need to survive - all of this so well woven into the Bright family's story.
I was sad, happy and so deeply moved by the story. I loved the book. And I hope everyone gets around to reading it once.
