Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

4.0

I was really looking forward to reading this as I wanted to before the movie comes out, and I wasn't disappointed. I did like The Shining a bit better as I found it generally more scary/thrilling, but Doctor Sleep is still a good spooky read. The writing is brilliant, fast-paced, and keeps you on your toes. Not only does this add to the horror genre, but provides an analysis regarding how alcoholism affects the family not only when it's occurring, but also future generations. Couldn't put it down, and can't wait to see the movie adaptation. King continues the story and adds definition and depth to the world he introduced in The Shining.

I would definitely recommend reading The Shining first(some people are debating if you have to read it to understand?) as I feel that quite a bit of character development and plot twists revolve around The Shining.
