The Pact by Niina Blake
slow-paced
3.0
The blurb and the cover attracted me.
I was definitely ready for a cosy book set in Vermont, with an almost one bed trope between two strangers accidentally sharing a cabin. One of which is a romance author, yes please!
But it took me so long to even hit 10% read, then it draaaagged on till 37% and now I am 54% and I have given up. I cannot have this book weigh on me for another 10+ days till it is finally finished.
Loved the banter and the tension (when it was there, in between it was a bit bland), LOOOOOVED Elijah’s friends and all the quirky townsfolk. But with other books asking my attention (and my current read on 66% after less than 2,5 hours) I have decided to throw in the towel.
Also, what made me laugh, was how long it took me to connect the title, “The Pact”, with the story. Dylan made this pact with herself to not fall in love. Which is why she resists Elijah and really tries to focus on herself. It is THE most important thing in the whole story, the thing everything connects to, and I was fully blank about this.
I am sure it is even in the summary of this book, but nope, I did not connect the dots and it flew directly over my head whoops.
I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
