Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs

5.0

Harriet Jacobs' Incidents in the LIfe of a Slave Girl is a brilliant autobiography. Jacobs recounts the life of an enslaved woman, one that until this time had been largely ignored. Jacobs does a brilliant job of discussing the negative effects of enslavement on Black men and women. Additionally, it is Jacobs' telling of the affect of slavery on White women that is equally touching. Harriet Jacobs' Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is a must read and the Norton Edition provides readers with essays that will help students and writers further understand the text on many analytical levels.
