I found the pacing a little slow at first but now I can't wait to see how the story and characters keep developing in the next book. The art is gorgeous and the colour palettes are perfectly selected. I found myself caring about the characters more than I initially expected and the slow reveal of their history (no spoilers, go read it!) was so well done.
I hadn't read any of Marjorie Liu's works before this but I am keen to read Monstress soon as I really loved her storytelling coupled with Sana Takeda's art.

Graphic: Blood
Moderate: Self harm, Violence, and Gore
Self harm - a character bites their wrist and there is blood. This is not related to suicidal ideation, it is done ritualistically.
