The Heron's Cry by Ann Cleeves
3.0
After I finished reading the first in this series – The Long Call – I discovered it had been made into a TV serial. After finishing this, the second in the series, I read that the TV company have decided not to make a second season. I think I can see why: The Heron’s Cry is just not as good as The Long Call.
An unfortunate blend of the uninteresting [ Patients Together] and the unbelievable [ DS Jen Rafferty (working class leftie) and her previously unmentioned bff (posh, magistrate) for starters], the plot even managed to shrink the online world from global and distant to little and local.
It’s not the worst detective book I’ve ever read – I did keep on reading, after all, but I broke my own rule – don’t read series – and I got what I deserved.
