Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

I wanted to like this book since the bare bones plot was so interesting, but it was smothered by too many words and stretched across too many pages. The roles of most of the side characters were insignificant, so much so that this could probably be rewritten with only three characters and not lose any value. So much emphasis was placed on making the main character's quirks seem vague that it defeated the purpose. I liked catching references to how the main character viewed himself, but I couldn't enjoy figuring him out because his voice was too overbearing.

I had no trouble reading through the book and it was engaging enough that I didn't abandon it, but when I finished I felt like I'd just read through a waste of time.
