Rosicrucianism. This novel could have been good and looked promising at first, before it ended up in a cliché of love is the highest truth in the universe. Zanoni, an immortal who have lived for millenia, decides to save a woman he loves. Of course it happens during the French revolution, just before Robespierre and the terreur ends.

Many readers will find the references puzzling and new. There are, however, lite new among them. An extremely disappointing read. The old-fashioned language and quotes from mainly contemporary authors is likewise trite.
