The Diamond Secret: A Retelling of Anastasia, by Suzanne Weyn

2.0

Have you ever seen the animated film Anastasia<.I> by Don Bluth? If you have, then you know this story. We don't have a zombie Rasputin haunting Nadya, and the non-love interest con man is a displaced Russian nobleman, yearning for his missing wife and son, (oops, and they do give us a little bit about the execution of the Romanov family) but other than that, it's the same story.

My brain kept singing songs from the movie while I was reading it. Since this book was written after that movie was released, I couldn't help feeling that she should have made more of an effort to differentiate between the two stories.
