Wow. I have got to say that this ranks among one of my favorites for sure!
Stiles wakes up to find himself stripped of his magical powers and sharing living quarters with a fellow prisoner - an alpha werewolf. Said wolf is stuck in his beta form by magical means and is quite feral. But of course this is Stiles we're talking about - the Stilinski charm is on full force and he easily wins over Derek.
As they spend their time in captivity there is a slow build up to their friendship and ultimately, stronger feelings develop. They unweave an intricate plot that led to their capture, the outcome if successful, not at all desirable.
This had a bit of [b:Lock All The Doors Behind You|21953650|Lock All The Doors Behind You|entanglednow|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1401890770s/21953650.jpg|41260322] to it. The dynamic of verbose Stiles and mute feral Derek was an interesting twist where communication and intent were raw and honest.
Why did I like this so much??
First, the way Stiles and Derek come together was different from the usual "I'm clueless/there's no way he'd be attracted to me/I'm undeserving of love" back and forth. These two are older. They had lives before they were captured. There was a maturity present that's missing in some of the fanfics when the gang is mostly in high school.
Stiles is awesome. He's magical, with tattoos and is a powerful mage who's not afraid to kick ass. He also clearly expresses his wants and needs and makes Derek do the same. Sure there was some hedging and there was some avoidance but these guys work at it.
The kicker though was the fact that this just didn't end when they defeated the baddies and they ride off into the sunset assuming they lived happily ever after. This showed the aftermath of their captivity and how they dealt with their demons, insecurities, and their efforts to move on from that terrible time. I love reading about them as an established couple, having real life couple problems but at the same time loving each other despite those obstacles.
AND, AND… for those wondering and wanting a bit of man on man action - this does not disappoint either!
