Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand

4.0

an extremely quick read for me thank goodness. wow. that. was insane. so much sadness. this was my first time reading a play for fun (and not for school) and I will say it's a very different structure compared to regular novels. I will say it was quite difficult getting used to the play format and trying to read and understand the story thru the play but I got it more as the story progressed. tbh the beginning was like kinda boring but I thought it picked up rather quickly after the second or third act which I really enjoyed. but, I still feel as if I haven't completely absorbed everything from the text yet so I will definitely be coming back to this book in the future. I think I wasn't able to completely enjoy it bc most of the time I spent reading this book was me trying to get used to the play format and me trying to understand what's going on. but once I got all of that the story was incredibly fast paced and I was flipping thru the pages like crazy. I thought the dialogue was written very well and expressed the emotions very well. and the letters that Cyrano wrote??? absolute gorgeous lines. especially when he says something like "you have stolen my heart, so you should lend me yours now" or something like that. man I swooned. the love letters are so so so so cute I loved them so much. anyways that was such a tragic story. I'm really glad I read it tho. a supes fun book to start out my year with LMAO. idk I don't necessarily like reading plays as much and this one didn't really change my opinion but it was still good. alright I think that's enough to say on this book. maybe I'll say more when I reread it in the future. but for now, solid book, please read it if you wanna feel devastation and heartbreak.
