Wolfsong by TJ Klune

4.0

This was an interesting rereading experience. It was simultaneously just as good and worse than I remembered, so I'm somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4 star. TJ Klune does the usual stuff I like in his books here: writes a cast of characters I become attached to, makes a writing style/voice that shouldn't work for me definitely work for me, crafts a romance that has that achey feel to it that I adore..all that is here. The plot was also engaging, and ultimately I'm intrigued enough to continue reading in this world.

However. This book is definitely too long and almost infuriatingly repetitive. I wonder if it's the combo of single pov AND a distinct voice, but I could feel the pace start to drag. Idk man.....I know it got trad pubbed by Tor recently, so I hope there was some editing. Also, the age gap of it all. Any element of an age gap romance where the older MC knew the younger MC as a minor is gonna give me pause, especially in this when Joe is 17 when things start romantically. Nothing physically happens till much later but....idk it just makes me uncomfy. Clearly I still read it tho so it's not a total dealbreaker ig.

While I still ended up liking this, I'm hoping the later books work better for me! Glad I can finally continue in this series
