The Children of Gods and Fighting Men by Shauna Lawless

slow-paced

4.5

I knew after two chapters that I would love this book. The fantasy aspect is really light (for now) which I didn't expect, but I also didn't mind it since I love historical novels. It's also refreshing to have two mothers as main characters. I especially loved how none of it felt YA. I have noticed a trend of fantasy books that are described as adult, but in the end felt more like a YA novel. Thank god this didn't happen here. I also liked how they weren't your typical strong female characters , but had actual depth. The only complaint I have is that there weren't any highs and lows. I enjoy stories that go at an even pace, but I still would have loved to have one or two scenes that really packed a punch.

I am excited to continue with this series!
