Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness, by Steve Friedman, Scott Jurek

4.0

3.5/5

While reading Eat and Run I came to the conclusion that ultrarunning is definitely the most extreme sport I’ve come across. But while Scott Jurek’s descriptions made me ask the question of why would anyone be crazy enough to voluntarily take part in the insane competitions, he also succeeded in giving a satisfying answer to that question. If you want to know what I mean, read the book.

Essentially Eat and Run is Scott’s memoir revolving around his career as an ultrarunner, particularly exploring the part that his vegan diet, different mental practices and other athletes have had on it. I did find it a bit repetitive, but the world of ultrarunning felt so foreign to me that I kept being amazed, and the writing style makes this quite a quick read too.
