It took a few chapters, but this book gripped me. It’s incredible to me the mental fortitude Tara Westover has demonstrated to live through the life she’s had and be at this point, and this book was a very matter-of-fact perspective of how someone who has had a cult-like, religious, violent upbringing does not necessarily have the understanding or language to see why things in their life are not okay, or how they could be different. It shows how someone might stay in a terrible situation without being a defence of that decision.
