sarah hogle you marvelous beast.
i absolutely loved hogle's debut (you deserve each other) so i wasn't surprised to find that i loved her second novel as well!
plot !
the plot of the book was great! it was forced proximity enemies to lovers. like HELLO??? so good omfg. basically, to give you the gist in my words, a hopeless romantic with not a hint of romance in her life (maybell) suddenly inherits her childhood happy place from her great aunt and decides to leave her old life behind and move there! once she arrives, she realizes she's not the sole inhabitor and has to share the property with a quiet sweetheart (wesley) and it's amazing. they both have ideas of what to do with the property and they mesh them into this beautiful creation which is great!!
characters !
ok so both of the main characters have my heart. maybell is so relatable with how she daydreams her life away and wesley is the absolute sweetest and i adore him so much. i don't wanna spoil the characters too much so i'll just leave it at that :P just know i have little complaint about the characters! the only thing i might have is that this book kind of lacked platonic friendships with its characters. like maybell and wesley, to put it blankly, are lonely as hell and really just have each other LMAO it would've been nice if we got to like see their friendships and such. especially with maybell since she moved from the city to the countryside and never really had a true friend.
romance !
AA I LOVE IT SO MUCH they're both such awkward softies which i LOVEEE!!! like we always get stories where one of the characters (typically the gal) is timid while their love interest (typically the guy) is all bold. but with these two, they're both just little fluff balls and i mean that in the least cringe way possible.
their relationship is just so... wholesome? and so endearing.
final thoughts !
basically, read this. i know, the first few pages are boring but i promise it gets better and you will fall in love with wesley just like i did. and maybell too <3
