The Inquisition by Taran Matharu

3.0

I think this series just after finishing the second book is just going to be okay to me. It is definitely geared to a younger audience which normally I don't mind because I do enjoy all genre's but this one is hitting me differently.

The Inquisition does pick up a year later after the conclusion of The Novice and it is very much a drag in like the first 150 pages. The second half of the book though does hit a stride and has some really good plot twists and reveals that I didn't see coming, so I applaud that. The characters are still enjoyable to follow and I enjoyed the couple of new faces we got. I enjoy that Fletcher is a level headed protagonist and thinks decisions through before he acts. You don't see that a lot in YA. Some of the magic system exploration we got was nice but I still want more from it. I do not know what that more is but it's just missing that extra touch.

There is technically two more books left in this series but one left in this overall trilogy because the other is a prequel. So I am going to dive into The Battlemage.
