Zora is a young 17 – year old, a girl from the Dark Valley – the place that’s been cursed to remain in isolation with shadow monsters that spawn on the smallest and darkest corner of a wall. After being pressured into sex by her boyfriend Seth, and finding he was cheating on her all this time – she plans her revenge. She plays him well, by tricking him that she will offer what she “promised”, instead she’s giving him wine with a magical potion that knocks him out, sound asleep for hours – enough time for her to escape.

Zora cheats her way into the Royal Games without thinking about the challenges she will face
once she’s there, all she wants to do is to prove that even as a female, she can be a champion and make her Village proud. Once at the Royal Games, Zora’s facing even more challenges, with the younger prince who thinks she’s too fragile to be in the competition to the older prince who’s helping her at the cost of getting Zora entangled in dangerous flirting games – flirting the last thing on Zora’s mind, but she would do everything that’s necessary so she can win the legendary Blood Cup.

I loved the book! I’m actually sad that I’ve finished it so quickly, I wanted more of this. Even tho there’s a 2nd book coming out next year, I can’t help to feel I’ve read it too fast lol The book didn’t felt fast-paced for me, it was like the perfect rhythm, the perfect mix of sass, bravery, and romance. I actually enjoyed that there was little to no romance because the book mostly focused on Zora and her challenges as a girl in a male-dominated world. The blurb says “Throne of Glass meets Minecraft” sadly I didn’t read or play any so I can’t compare this book with anything, which makes it even more perfect for me.

As you’ve already known by now, I love a strong female character. The book for sure can be considered YA even tho there’s the sex pressure but there’s no act happening and/or something triggering I don’t even remember if the word sex is being mentioned in the book. Today is the release-day of the book and all I can say is, that the next year isn’t coming soon enough. What an amazing story to follow this was!
