Violeta by Isabel Allende
3.0
I feel rotten giving this just 3 stars, maybe 3.5. I know Allende is a beloved author and maybe I should have started with something else. While I loved the historical aspects - the story ranges from the Spanish flu pandemic to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic - the narrator’s voice seemed dry and not terribly engaged. There were great moments strung together by one piece of world history to the next. It felt more like reading a textbook than a personal narrative.
