As someone who started reading Pern novels at the age of 10, I am astounded that I have never read a Pierce book until yesterday. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!
I am on the bandwagon people, this was such a satisfying read. I've become jaded with YA over the last year, picking up things that just seem to be the same angsty story as the book before - that's my fault, I haven't learnt my lesson. SO - I've been reaching for middle grade more and more in the hopes of catching that wonder and freshness and excitement that I know is out there. There really are some spectacular middle grade storytellers in the world.
For the end of the year, I told myself to go back to my roots of high fantasy, and backlist books that have been on my tbr forever.
If this is how my last two months of this year will be spent, I am VERY HAPPY.
I will absolutely be ferreting out Pierce's back catalogue and living in Tortall as much as possible.
