Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution by Mona Eltahawy

emotional informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

Key message: Keep shining a light on women's issues, give voice to the struggles of people on the ground instead of pontificating. Avoid the temptation of cultural relativism saying we must respect their culture/religion's perspective about women and their roles. "Understand that whoever deemed it as such was never a woman."

Covers a broad range of topics around women's autonomy, safety and freedom. Needless to say it's painful to hear the statistics and the stories. This book has inspired me to read more about feminists from the middle east and around the world.
