The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley

2018 Reading Challenge- Read a book rated 5 stars by at least one of your friends.

If you told 10 year old me that I would enjoy book recommendations from my mother, I would have called you crazy. I was so against wanting to enjoy the same books she loved and suggested that it's comical now to see how many books we both share a love for- especially our love for well written mysteries. I'm a fan of a good mystery- both cozy and hard hitting- and this kind of sits somewhere in the middle. It's not exactly a cozy but it does have some of the traditional tropes of a cozy (untrained detective takes on case close to home, often using their knowledge on a certain hobby to help solve the case). I really quite enjoyed the story and while I did know the "whodunit", I still had fun reading along with Flavia's journey. This is a well crafted mystery that has all the lighthearted fun of a cozy mystery with the seriousness and intelligence of a hard hitting mystery. Thanks to my mom for the indirect recommendation!
