The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley

2.0

I expected so much more from this read. Two separate instances of overt, intentional racism is not a good look. These instances were in no way condemned, nor did they play a role in some larger purpose or moral. They are just there being harmful for the sake of being harmful??? GROSS!!

Also, I feel like I was supposed to find Flavia charming and endearing but instead I found her incredibly obnoxious and arrogant. Not cute.

Two stars earned because the mystery elements themselves were well plotted and because Jayne Entwistle did a PHENOMENAL job with the narration. I’m almost sad I won’t be continuing the series just to experience more of her fantastic narration. Almost sad.
