I am aware that classic literature can some times be a challenge, and that styles and language change.  But this was just horrible and painful to read.  The racism, casual violence, and just down right strangeness of it all was like trying to read though someone's fever dream.  I've read Alice in Wonderland which is supposed to be fever dream-esque but this was so much worse.
