Escaping Wonderland by Tiffany Roberts

Alice in Wonderland, except Wonderland is a simulation inside an asylum. Are you stressed out yet?

Alice knows that she's in a simulation, but she doesn't quite know what to do about it. Everything is disorienting (The flowers are changing size and shape! Why does my face look like that!), and she's being pushed and pulled around by other sinister characters that clearly do not have her best interests in mind. (That's putting it mildly.)

Shadow, her love interest, is an enigmatic figure. Like most of Wonderland's inhabitants, he doesn't know this is a simulation either, but what he does know is that the and Alice belong together. They are so cute together, I loved it.

I do think asylums are a form of incarceration, and with that in mind I wish the book acknowledged that some of the antagonists are also victims. Not only do they have no choice but to be there, but they likely don't know that what they're experiencing isn't real.
